Protein and strength · call recap
Protein first, and the honest problem with that
10 June 202413 attendedHeld by Ren
The whole content of this circle fits on a postcard: eat enough protein, keep loading your muscles, do not let the loading lapse in the weeks you feel worst. Thirteen people already knew that. The hour went where it always goes, which is the gap between knowing it and doing it while nauseated, tired and cooking for other people.
Where the room started
With the theory, briefly, because a couple of people were new. A period of rapid change is a stress on muscle and bone. The mitigations are unglamorous and well supported. That took four minutes and then we got to the actual problem, which is volume: the foods that solve this are frequently the foods you cannot face.
Harri put it well. Rugby knees, new relationship with protein, and a chicken breast that he described as looking like a job of work rather than a meal.
What the room has found
Spread across the day rather than in one lump, which everybody found easier and which several people had been told is also better supported. Greek yoghurt and eggs, and the honest limits of both. Cold cooked chicken picked at rather than plated. Drinks, honestly reviewed — three people find them tolerable, two cannot get past the texture, and one had been forcing them down for months believing there was no alternative.
Ashwin's contribution was the most useful: a vegetarian plate with a third of the appetite is a genuinely harder puzzle, and he has five meals he rotates and no interest in a sixth.
Where we left it
With the loading half, which people neglect. Two sessions a week, kept alive, beats a better programme abandoned in March. Nobody in this circle is too old, too new or too unfit for it, and there is no body composition talk here, which I ask for at the start of every call and will keep asking for.
