The risks nobody can remove, said again

I run this call twice a year and I run it deliberately unchanged, because the membership turns over and because repetition is the only defence against a subject where confident writing accumulates and caution does not. Seventeen people, nine of them new to the circle. No documents this time, no methods. Just the honest position, at length, with the room's own experiences attached.
The position
Buying outside a prescription carries risk this community cannot remove. Identity — is it what it says. Dose accuracy — is there as much in there as the label claims, evenly. Sterility and endotoxin — the part that can hurt you fastest and the part least often tested. Contamination. And no recourse: nobody to complain to, no batch recall, no clinician who knows what you took.
Research-use-only material is not approved for human use. I say that every time and it is not a legal formality bolted on the end. It is the actual status of the thing.
What the room added
Two accounts that did more work than my list. One member described a batch that came back from independent testing wrong, what he did next, and the fact that his only options were to bin it and absorb the cost. Another described a supplier that changed hands between two orders, with the same name on the site and nothing else the same, and how nothing in the documents would have told her.
Nkechi, who keeps careful records, said the thing several people wrote down: she can tell you exactly what she has bought and when, and she cannot tell you what was in any of it, and holding both of those at once is the honest position.
Where we left it
With no conclusion, because it is not this circle's job to produce one. Several members have gone back to a prescription. Several have not. What I insist on is that the decision is made with the risks in view rather than talked out of view by anybody, including by a room of friendly people. There are no links here, no contact details, and no brokering, and there never will be.
