The arithmetic

Recording this for the record.

Price went up mid-year and I had a very unglamorous evening with a calculator and a cup of tea.

Price volatility and a difficult month.

Did the arithmetic out loud, on the page, no rounding. It is a lot. Seeing it written down was steadying rather than frightening, which I had not expected.

What this has displaced in the budget: the car being fixed, and a holiday. I have decided that is the right trade for now and I reserve the right to change my mind.

Pausing for two months. Not a failure, not a moral event, just a month where the money is not there.
