My drinking crept up during a plateau

My drinking crept up during a plateau Writing it down partly to work out what I actually think.

Practical question, and possibly a silly one.

I have tried three arrangements and none of them has survived a difficult week, which suggests I am designing for good weeks.

I would like practical detail rather than encouragement. What people actually do, in what order, and what goes wrong when they get it wrong.

No hurry. I have a fortnight before I need to decide anything.

Coming back a year on to say it settled into something I am comfortable with, which is less and better and much less thought about.

Two landed like five for me, very early on, and it took one uncomfortable evening to work out that something had genuinely changed.

What helped was noticing the pattern in my notes. Three difficult mornings across two months, all after the same thing.

Facilitator note: nothing in this circle is medical advice and the practical arrangements still need agreeing with whoever prescribes for you.

The pub is still the pub and I still go. That took a bit of working out and the answer turned out to be that the pub was never about the drink.

Lucas, thank you for that. It gives me somewhere to start from.

Mine hit much faster and lasted longer, and the following day was noticeably worse than it used to be.

No advice, just company. Here if it helps.

What I would say is that the change caught me out socially more than physically. My rounds were the same and my capacity was not.

Nkechi — yes, and the bit that took me longest to accept was the next part.

What I found is that the first drink now does what three used to, so I have stopped at one and been perfectly content.

My experience is that this is one of the most commonly reported changes here and one of the least discussed anywhere else.

Reading Perdy, I recognised more of that than I expected to.

My rule now is that I do not drink on the day, which is entirely my own rule and my prescriber was fairly relaxed about the whole subject.

Adding a marker so it does not get lost: the most practical sentence in a thread like this is almost never the first one, and somebody arriving late will scroll straight past it.

The thing I did not expect was how much better my sleep got, and how much of what I had blamed on other things had been the drinking.
